Does AI and XR = New Vision of the Web?

Like many of you, I've long felt the web would eventually become some type of virtual reality. It seems only natural to me. However, all attempts to do this so far have failed.

Here's my theory:

1. AI Bots will be the new website. ChatGPT-level bots that are trained specifically on your own data could replace many uses of websites. Before you know it, we'll be speaking to bots whose sole purpose is to connect us with other bots, just as search engines are websites that connect us to other websites.

2. 3D Avatars will embody the AI Bots, meaning the next website is really an AI-powered 3D avatar trained on your data.

3. We will soon all have our own personal bot, capable of going out into the virtual world and accomplishing tasks independently from us.

4. The next World Wide Web will feel similar to Second Life, except avatars can be loaded for each user independently (rather than a large crowd trying to get a single avatar's attention). You'll have your own personal concierge representing an instance of every business, and these concierges will exist in the virtual world as 3D avatars.

5. Finally, as mixed reality goggles go from bulky devices with a short lifespan to devices you can wear all day long, we will see real-world stores begin to augment, and then replace, their staff with 3D avatars. Offices will go fully virtual, allowing everyone to work in a singular space, yet remotely.

Whether any of the above is a good thing or not, I do not know. But it's what I expect we'll see in the coming decade.

What say you?

You should check out “Neuromancer” by William Gibson. I think most of us are more unimaginative than we know wrt what the future can look like

It might be a good science fiction movie to depict a future where privileged people walk around with AR glasses and the remainder don't.

We can have XR and personalised language bots and the web. I don't think they're a replacement.
