What are some resources on CTF competitions?

I am extremely interested in eventually joining a CTF team and want to begin really hitting the books. Any sites, forums or media I could leverage to practice, learn and hopefully join a team to compete would be greatly appreciated. I just began my x86 journey but I figure there are some veterans here with some good advice. Thank you!

Here is probably your best resource: https://ctftime.org/

Check out the "New writeups" section.

Many teams will do CTF problem writeups.

It's reasonable to sign up for a CTF solo and struggle with problems, then read write ups after to gain tactics and strategies.

It's not uncommon for college level students to struggle completing one non intro problem even with 30+ hours of effort, so don't be hard on yourself.

If you get good at CTFs you should do write ups yourself. After all if you get a job pentesting the writeup is likely more important than the exploiting, and it's good to pay it forward to the people after you anyway.

I like HackTheBox. It has lots of “real”/CTF like instances, and interesting smaller challenges as well.

There's a CTF Section available at AccessCyber.co
