How did you name your monolith?

Naming microservices is easy. The thing that handles account stuff becomes the account service!

However the monolith does many things. It may serve frontend and backend. Maybe even some AI, or the scripts of the colleague from finance.

So how did you name your monolith?

I often settle for company name + platform.

In the early days it’s ok to not worry about the difference between company name & product. But as you develop many products it may make sense to have company & product names be distinct. It depends on product positioning and branding goals. Theres no “best” approach here.

[Company Name].Core

Spending any more than 5 seconds on naming your core system is a waste of time/energy. If it ever needs a distinct name, it can be renamed. But that only ever happens in very complex operations, and even then it's rare.

All my monoliths are named after mountains. Dru, verte, argentera, tacul amongst others.
