With Reddit 3rd party apps in jeopardy, is there a feature review?

I've been hearing a lot recently about how reddit's UI is bad and the 3rd party apps are better.

I'm not disagreeing with that.

However, a lot of these comments are made as supporting points in threads focused on adjacent topics, and thus they often lack specificity.

I feel like before the 3rd party apps go away, we have an opportunity to learn some things about UX.

- What, specifically, is bad about reddit's offerings?

- What design choices are common among 3rd party apps but which differ from reddit's?

- What innovations have 3rd party apps made that were picked up by other 3rd party apps and/or reddit?

- What design considerations are under-appreciated?

Those sorts of questions.
