Is DBA a dying job in the cloud era?

I've heard a lot of such discussions around how DBAs are in risk of losing their jobs because maintenance isn't a thing any more in the cloud era. What do DBAs really think?

Writing/optimizing queries, managing backup and replication is still a pain, and a little beyond the grasp of your average SWE or SRE. I still think there’s a place for dedicated DBA’s in many orgs. But that’s just me.

DBAs don’t provide their worth in backups and maintenance (though they could be tasked with that) - it’s in intelligent database and query design.

And sadly, many companies just throw money at the problem by buying more compute and cache.
