Webp vs. Avif

Question

Which one would you choose for a web site ?Which one do you feel has the best file size/image quality ratio ?Which one do you think will become a de facto standard in the coming months/years ?

I wrote a blog post about AVIF [0]. Based on my experience, AVIF usually performs best in regards to the size and quality. Due to progressive enhancement, you don't have to actually choose between the available formats. By providing JPG/PNG, WebP and AVIF with the "picture" element, the browser will use the one it supports.
As for looking into the crystal ball, I wouldn't make any bets. But seing browsers removing existing support for JPEG XL, the image format many hoped to replace existing formats, I currently hold onto AVIF.
