How do you discover new games?


Hey HN - I am looking for new games to play. A bit sick of the classic Fifa and God of War console games. Yet I cannot find anything that really interests me on mobile or web or pushes me to at least try it out.

This led me thinking that how does anyone discover new games today. Any recommendations ?

As a general rule, I say “eschew the new” and go for the classics.

Some random recommendations off the top of my head:

• Monument Valley : a short puzzle game about optical illusions

• Breath of the Wild : open-world Zelda with fun physics

• Untitled Goose Game : wreak havoc on a small town as a goose

• Hollow Knight : difficult but reward metroidvania game with lots of secrets

• FTL : spaceship management

• Hyper Light Drift : incredibly beautiful Zelda-like game

• Portal : puzzle game with portals

• Undertale : moral bullet-hell with humor

I’ve also heard great things about Noita, Rain World, Disco Elysium, Bioshock, Elden Ring, ChronoTrigger, Mother 3, Braid, and Dwarf Fortress
