https://jonathanhaidt.substack.com/ - I read a good post there and feel like "subscribing to give something back" but I don't pay.

I don't have time/energy to read that much anymore. Same with a dozen others (https://astralcodexten.substack.com/, https://roonscape.substack.com/p/a-song-of-shapes-and-words)

I found Yale history professor Timothy Snyder after I saw him on PBS Frontline and watched his speech to the UN security council on how Russia's activity in Ukraine is genocide and how the idea of "russophobia" is a clear indicator of Russia's genocidal intent. He explains history in a very algorithmic way.

Since at least 2016, the world has felt like it is falling apart. Our society feels like it is buckling and the future feels grim. It's been unclear to me if it is in my head or if things are really that bad.

Professor Snyder makes everything make sense. He provides perspective. He feels like an adult in the room. The bad news is that everything looks pretty grim, the good news is he seems optimistic that things can get better. As far as political talk goes, no one has made as much sense to me and presented such a clear pragmatic understanding of how things work since Lawrence Lessig at least 10 years ago.
