2) You might get an intro without having built anything, but it's much more likely you'd get an intro if you had an impressive demo. Or a set of 3-4 questions that show the work you've already done and show why you need to talk to them (and why it couldn't answered by someone else, and why it couldn't be answered through one of their existing interviews)
