Why don't alarms gradually increase volume so you can plug your ears?
You could even use this approach for shared landline phones where family members want the phone to ring at different volume levels.

I don’t understand. Why would I want to plug my ears instead of switching the alarm off and getting up / going back to sleep?
Do families still have shared landline phones?
