How did you meet other motivated, interdisciplinary people?

I'm currently a grad student getting a STEM degree. Most of my friends are also in the STEM circle, and this is nice on a technical level, but I am no one else seems to take an interest in books, film, art, etc. Not to sound like every self-help book, but I do enjoy living holistically and balancing creative and technical disciplines. How do I go about meeting people with potentially extremely different mindsets and values from my STEM friends?

Even Einstein loved to fish!

I made that up, but really. Find your hobbies that allow you to switch your STEM brain off. Then find like minded folks enjoying the same hobby. Fishing is good because it can be solitary up until you're all circling the same lake.

My biggest trick in life has been to just be genuinely interested in what other people do. Most people are interested in the product of what people do, but if you're genuinely curious about their life and what drives their passions and invigorates them, they'll be glad someone finally asked!

Ask for a chef's table alone at your favourite place to eat.

Do pottery even if you've never tried it. Your relationships and your pottery work might not correlate, but you'll find a strength in one or both no doubt!

Good luck

Why not take an undergrad class in some of those?

maybe create a study group and see if you can make friends that way.
