How about we rename FAANG to MAMAA?

I still hear people refer to the top tech companies as FAANG, but I think that term is outdated because Netflix is waning in relevance and two of the FAANG companies have changed their names. So, I propose that we switch from saying "FAANG" to "MAMAA" (Meta, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet). I also think this acronym is more fun to say (example: referring to big tech as "big MAMAA") and maybe even a metaphor for how smaller companies are like children beholden to MAMAA's platforms. Anyone with me?

The list never made much sense anyway. Facebook and Google are basically the same kind of company. Apple is a premium hardware manufacturer. Amazon is the 21st century Sears and Roebucks (and, moatless, may reach the same destination much faster than Sears did.) Netflix stopped being a tech company when it started making its own content and it's a better comparable w/ Disney or Universal.

5 seconds after I posted this, I Googled it and found that I'm definitely not the first one to think of MAMAA:

This just further convinces me that it's time to deprecate FAANG in favor of MAMAA.

Just say "Big Tech" (or maybe "Top Tech" or "Top 5" if you specifically want the top 5). Otherwise you're going to have to rename the acronym every 5 years

I'd favor going with Facebook, Uber, Cisco, Intel, Taligent - aka, FUCIT!

Granted, Taligent hasn't existed since 1998, but I don't see how that really matters.

I say we stick with Facebook and swap Amazon for Intel.

GAMMA? (Alphabet is a silly name, go back to Google).

Thinking about this too:

MAGNAT (Meta, Apple, Google, Netflix/NVIDIA, Amazon, Tiktok)

MAGNAM (Meta, Apple, Google, Netflix/NVIDIA, Amazon, Microsoft), if TikTok is cut...

MAGNAM-IT (Meta, Apple, Google, Netflix/NVIDIA, Amazon, Microsoft, Intel, TikTok), for the boomers' parents and the Southerners.
