Investment advice for programmers working 9 to 5?

Hi, I'm looking for some financial investment advice as someone who does not know a lot about it.

Like, how does someone multiply their money?

Stocks? Property? What are the best options? I know a lot of people don't like to be responsible for someone else's financial decisions but I'm just curious.

Slowly, consistently, and without emotions. If you want to start and don't know much about it, find a known index fund and start paying in every month. If you're young and think you'll have enough emergency savings elsewhere, choose some aggressive fund and ignore months where it goes down.

Once you have that going, you can research other options and rebalance / move as you want.

But the most impactful thing you can do is start today and make it monthly/automatic.

(This assumes you're either talking about savings your want to have access to in a few years, or that you've already maxed out your tax free amounts for your retirement fund)

The younger you are the more you should try to save. Compounding interest is your new best friend.

Other than that, diversify your portfolio.

Finally, if you're serious, at least speak to a professional. There's no telling who will reply on a forum such as this ;)
