Buying Voice Assistant on eBay?

Is buying a used voice assistant from eBay a good idea?

With modern code locking, I wonder whether any of these could end up being being bricks, in the same way many Apple devices become bricks when the previous owner fails to unlock/unlink them prior to sale.

Of course, they could always choose to upgrade the firmware later to brick its functionality, but most device manufacturers seem to be increasingly hostile to resale. Or is that perception only in my imagination?

Whatever you buy on ebay has a risk involved, as well as buying something used. You can mitigate that risk if you buy from someone you feel you could trust, a seller who has good reviews and not a large store with large volume. I bought a few Iphone SE 2020 from ebay a few months back for about 100 each and there were no problems at all, devices were fuctioning properly and in good condition.

Do your research on the particular item you want to buy first and make sure you ask the seller whatever quesiton you may have e.g about resetting the device or having any system password etc.
