Does an unused root URL need to redirect with HTTPS?

So I have a website.It's set up on the wwwhttp://www resolves fine https://www resolves fine http:// redirects fine https:// doesn't resolveIs that likely to be an issue, and is there a good fix?

Need to know more about how you have this set up? Which host?
What is doing the redirect? The application or gateway or perhaps some built in DNS thing provided by the registrar?
Honestly this is probably better suited to a sysadmin oriented stackexchange post.

Redirect your a record to www came then have your www on https. You can use cloud flare to redirect root records to www.
