Survey to find what smart people do on the weekend (C. Dixon inspired)

Today, I re-read Chris Dixon’s essay “What the smartest people do on the weekend is what everyone else will do during the week in ten years”.

And I wondered, WHAT ARE the smartest people doing on the weekend?

If you’re unaware of the essay, here’s a TL;DR:

* Many breakthrough technologies initially were weekend hobbies. E.g. the PC, the web, blogs, Bitcoin, 3D printing, …

* Engineers are mostly trying to invent interesting things. This is what they are doing on the weekend in their spare time.

* These present-day hobbies will turn into future industries. What the smartest people do on the weekends is what everyone else will do during the week in ten years.

I created a 2-min survey to ask: What are the smartest people working on on the weekend?

This might be obvious to people living in tech epicenters like SF or Shenzen, but not to the broader world.

We might be able to find interesting patterns.

Feel free to participate in the survey: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfwHHBpLFhmBBZQwKtjSSR18-_5M7uO_BuhL4j-XUXZ_jG_kA/viewform

Results will be distributed on March 1st via..

Excited to see the results.

It is more true to say that what everyone is doing now during the week, someone was doing on the weekend ten years ago. But 99% of what smart people are doing on the weekend now is of little consequence, other than giving them something enjoyable to do. And if you really were hoping to come up with a world-changing technology, you wouldn't give a sneak preview to the rest of the world on HN, would you?
