How do you communicate at work, and whats the worst thing about it?

A recent article on here about how slack is the opposite of organisational memory got me wondering, do we all face the same problems?Do you use a Slack type chat app to communicate with colleagues? What's the worst part of using it?

We use a self-hosted Rocket.Chat instance with a maximum retention period of a couple of weeks, to encourage people against using it to store anything long-term. Almost all our internal emails are automatically wiped after a few months, for similar reasons.The only organizational memory that's written down permanently is a wiki that we're all expected to keep updated with anything that needs to be known by others, and our source code repositories.

Well, IMO its certainly better than emails.
I think the main problem is people think they can just search for context when they forget it... but then you eventually forget what you need to remember :)
I find wikis to be pretty useful.
