How do I break into Neurotech?

Particularly interested in affective computing, and the intersection of brain imaging/signaling & UX.

About me:

-Mid 30s

-Med school educated (not a trained physician)

-No neuroscience background

-Early-stage startup experience in healthtech

-Generalist with PM & design focus

I'm a software engineer with a bio eng. background and my significant other is close to finishing a phd in neuroscience - but between the both of us we can't identify any "quick trick" for breaking into the area. We're in WA state and some of the big players/employers in the area (non-University) are the Allen Institute (potentially relevant for someone with startup experience) and some folks have been courted by Neuralink (have only heard creepy stuff about it though so not a personal interest) and other smaller companies.

Not sure on your location but it could be relevant to seek out a University/research related position as a way to learn and network. Your med schooling could likely help with this but hopefully you're not too pigeon holed with your specific experience. Also this will all depend a lot on your pay expectations.

Luckily neuroscience is a broad field but unfortunately it doesn't seem to be a super accessibly/established "tech-industry". Good luck to you
