Did the latest round of tech layoffs focus mostly on remote workers?
Or did they layoff remote and office workers equally?
I was laid off, along with many of my remote coworkers, and coworkers in satellite offices. The CTO was internally heard saying that he believed remote does not work for eng.
I doubt we could know easily. http://layoffs.fyi shares the layoffs announced by companies, often with little data on what kinds of roles were impacted.
You could also make the argument that layoffs could target “in office” folks in expensive areas in preference for remote folks that could be paid less elsewhere.
It looks like the companies laying people off were the ones wanting staff back at the office.
