What’s your way to get rid of a hangover?

It’s New Year’s Day, and I imagine many of us overdid it last night to celebrate.

Of course, the best way to get over a hangover is to not drink enough to cause one in the first place, but assuming its too late for that, what’s your way to get rid of a hangover?

It's not only the "drinking enough" that causes one. Many factors, but one tip is to stay hydrated while you drink. You can drink a lot without having a hangover, so don't get a hangover to get rid of in the first place.

Have a bottle of water and drink from it while you're drinking your other beverages. Some, especially if you're having beer, may tell you that it defeats the purpose or that you won't get drunk if you're drinking water. They're wrong, of course.

In other words: you prepare how you want to wake in the morning the night before.

To be honest: time. Usually I have nothing better to do next day so if I can sleep it off that tends to be the best option. Unfortunately in the worst cases I just have to kinda sit and suffer (when you’re head is pounding nearly out of your skull and you throw up at the most minor movement there sadly not much I can do).

Sometimes I try to eat and drink some water or sports drink after I get home and before I go to bed. I’ve had mixed success with that.

Run or other sweaty exercise if you can physically handle it. If your hangover is too bad for that, try eating a small amount of something salty and greasy, like a bacon sandwich, and going back to bed

Hair of the dog, i.e. start drinking again. Hangovers are mild withdrawal effects so you can’t get rid of them without drinking or using a GABA drug like diazepam.

1. I plan my drinking sessions so that I give my body enough rest few nights before.

2. Mix alcohol only with water. No carbonated water, no soda/pop.

3. Drink slowly and make sure to pee.

4. Portion control i.e., 2 or 3 maximum.

5. Only one alcohol family per session.

6. In case I get that inevitable hangover, I do a few things, sometimes all together, eat good breakfast, drink lime water or buttermilk and extended sleep.

I've tried to avoid them.

If you are in condition to do it, a good hard run should fix it. You will still feel quite tired, but you will no longer feel hung over. About four miles is what I used to figure on.

Something greasy like a hamburger with fries and a pint of beer.

A walk outside in the cold fresh air followed by a big bowl of miso soup. Won’t cure it but facilitates the recovery process, especially if you’re a puker, like I am.

Lots of water and add in physical labor. If you can drink 1/2 gallon+ of water and sweat it out in the garden for 4 hours you will feel worlds better.

Drink min 2L water (as much as you physical can) before going to bed prevents me from getting it at all the next day.

But once you have it: no idea.

I never really get a bad hangover but I have heard that some people have a drink to get rid of it.

Take a good dump.

To facilitate that, lots of water, tea or anything that will make you use the loo sooner. :)
