other big goal was to work less and better balance hobbies and family. always believed in extreme ownership and progress but introspected hard and found politics and games at my company were pushing me to more working hours, not netting raw results.
i did not accomplish this goal and 2022 i worked 70 hour weeks, often sacrificing sleep and mental health. did slow down in q4.
still positive learning for me is i cant tune out or slow down because work is that important for me. but instead of making other people rich or successful should work for my self. biggest learning is that i have been giving away free ip to a bureaucratic, slow system that cannot and will not do much valuable thing with it. so why give this to a company? why not keep knowledge and file patent my self?
- Learn to play a musical instrument. I started playing piano and learned enough to play some good music. - Learn to play some sports. Learnt racquetball and pickleball and had a blast playing them. - Build a small indie hacker company. Built a side project and about to release it to wider audience. - Resolved some health issues that were bothering me forever - Filed a number of patents at my workplace
Of course I failed to accomplish some goals - like blogging, reading books, exercising everyday, and doing some online courses.
My observations are that - writing down your goals and reviewing them every now and then can make a huge difference!
Lost on the others. Actually gained weight. I'll do the standard lose weight one this year.
I did aspire to read all the leftover books, and ended up reading maybe 2-3. I think firstmost, the unfinished books are both lifechanging and difficult to read, and just won't happen without active effort. Some of the other unfinished books are just crap and I have to speed through them without taking notes.
Overall, I can't complain. Things are moving in the right direction.
