Is it a good time to make big purchases in the UK with USD?

Question

I live in the US and will be traveling to the UK next month. I'm wondering if it makes sense to make any big/expensive electronics purchases in the UK with USD with the current exchange rate? Or will any potential savings be cancelled out by other factors (higher pricing etc.)

A Dell XPS ordered via the US site starts at $849.00 or &pound;702. The same laptop ordered from Dell UK is &pound;949 or $1147.So based on a sample size of 1 the answer is that there is "No".

If you are looking to take advantage of exchange rates, you can compare the price after taxes in the US vs price in UK after exchanging currency. If the difference is worth the hassle of buying, storing, and transporting, then the answer is probably yes. Maybe you can save on taxes with a duty free arrangement (idk). Nobody will be able to tell you whether any difference in price will increase or decrease in the future.

unrelated, old thread was locked:https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33176877does Komorebi handle the random teams/windows popups effectively? meaning. the popup takes focus for my window manager hot keys and moves the little pop up across the screen when i want to move the window i am using accross the screen.and generally, windows based 'windows' like outlook dont get captured by autohotkey key bindings.didn't know any other way to reach out since the old thread had no 'reply' buttons. so i ended up here ;)
