Convert full time offer into part time offer

I've got an offer to work towards a doctorate in Data Engineering and am close to getting a job offer as a Sr engineer @ roughly 2x the take home salary.

I'm really excited for both roles and ideally would like to do both.

How do I persuade the company to take me on part time for a pro-rata'd salary?

Wait to you get the offer in writing. Then before accepting just ask. Decide what you will do if they say no in advance. Try to think of possible objections they have. You might get a kneejerk no to begin with but probe a bit more just to make sure it isn’t a “policy says no” thing and someone had thought about it.

Are You already working in company, where hope to be Sr engineer?

If yes, it is possible, You will find somebody, who will work second half of work planned for you, and You will manage him and be responsible for these two half's.

Yes, real business questions, when somebody ask to do half of work, are, who will do other half, and who will manage this additional person.

If You could give strongly supported answer for these questions, You will hit.

Get the offer. Ask if they're flexible. If not, take the industry gig. Unclear what a doctorate does in industry and if you're thinking about academia, then you should do academia 100%. It's fucking grueling.
