Do you skip social proof sections in landing pages?

I've always wondered if I am the only one who never reads the "social proof" section of landing pages.

Who cares about a carefully selected and biased review of a person I don't even know?

Many startups even put this type of section right after the hero section. I feel like that's wasted space.

I personally put more weight in negative reviews than positive reviews and none in hand picked positive reviews. I take all reviews with a grain of salt, but I find reading what is wrong with a product can sometimes highlight the unspoken things that are good.

The team or creator credentials are also a skip for me. If I am on the fence too much fluff is a deal breaker.

Important to note that the average HN user will probably not be the average user of your lander.

Absolutely.

The only thing I care about is the negative reviews on 3rdparty sites
