Reason for Twitter Threads from “Influencers” Explaining Basic Things?
It’s spam. Person after person posting things to the effect of “check out these top 10 Python libraries you cannot miss thread_emoji point_down_emoji” and those threads are always terrible or basic. Then a thousand people below reply saying “mem it” with no further engagement.
Why do people do this? To get followers? It is basic spam and very frustrating, I block them all.
Why do people do anything on social media? To get attention and/or make money.
Imagine the audience for a list of "top 10 Python libraries" and the kind of person who would post that. Who do they expect to influence? People who collect Python libraries?
I have been very actively using Twitter for around 18 months and I have two observations on this
1. When someone is beginner and they see such threads, they engage with it (either like, retweet or bookmark) so that they will save the resources for later use.
2. They engage (quote retweet or comment) on such threads to get engagement in return. The "influencer" in this context will reply/engage back with them giving them more attentions.
This becomes useful in both ways and also this is considered as a perfect way to gain followers. May be thats why :D
The real question is why use a social media that would put stuff like this in your feed. It is like having an RSS
reader add random crap blogs outside of your control
I think you need to question your assumption that "people" are doing this to begin with.
Pssttt why are you following Twitter accounts that upset you? Block and move on with your life.
