I am total programming noob but would love to be able to develop Shopify apps as I have had quite a few ideas for them.
Can anyone suggest the best place to start? Should I start learning Python or PHP, or is there a better starting point. Any pointers to online courses would be more than welcome. I'm a total beginner here.

I think you are stuck with writing your front end in Javascript but you could write a back end in anything. If you are starting from zero you might try writing your back end in Javascript too because that way you only have to learn one language.
