Curious to understand the definition of this term, which I’ve seen popping up a lot in HN threads lately.
I know the abbreviation, it means non player character, and I have a basic idea of how it’s used but the implication seems kind of indistinct.
For those that use this term in online conversations, what do you mean by it?

The meaning is quite similar to when people used to call others "sheep." Someone who doesn't think for themselves, is naive and swallows everything they're told. Has a set of preprogrammed replies which mimic that of the majority.
