How do I become more future-oriented?

There was this one gentleman whom I encountered whom I was super-impressed by. He seemed like the most future-oriented person I have ever met... but then it became clear that everything in his mind was from the 90s. When I was a toddler.I can do better than that. So please, future-oriented people of Hacker News, how do I become more future-oriented? Keep in mind I'm somewhat bad at technology.
