I’ve been looking for a job (Senior Software Engineer) for some time. Despite some 15-years experience in software development of various projects (Django backends, firmware for embedded systems, system software) I don’t have any social network account nor public projects on GitHub. Although I have pet project in private repositories which I’m willing to demonstrate during the interview I’m not ready to make it public.
Most of jobs even when posted on HN require filling in redundantly detailed forms and links to public social network profiles.
I understand why FAANG corporations would do this. But isn’t it kind of awkward for smaller teams of few people? Especially looking for senior level candidates. I think it might repel many of us.
Where I could find such vacancies that doesn’t require bureaucracy and more human-oriented? E.g. simply e-mailing plain text resume?
I hope that post will be helpful for fellow HN-ers. Thank you!
PS. Senior Software Engineer from Central Asia, looking for an interesting remote job. kzhner@yandex.kz
Looking at the latest WhoIsHiring post (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33068421) I reckon at least half of the posts have an email address in them.
Good luck landing a job!
