How do you dispose of your old devices?

I'm thinking about laptops and smartphones, when they are truly obsolete and they can cannot be gutted for parts.

Where I live (Northern California) there is a waste transfer station that accepts e-Waste at no charge. When you drive to the station a staff member asks what you have and points to an open stall/section in a large covered structure where e-waste can be dropped off. It's a pile, but it's also a not-for-landfill pile.

(And thanks for the reminder, I have some stuff to take over there)

An interesting video on the system & process from there: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2lmPIa1iWE
