Can't believe the numbers. Is the problem they are solving really that big? What’s the investor’s motivation?

Clickbaty question. Blockchains and query languages (the QL in GraphQL) are not related technologies. Graph QL is just a method of querying SQL databases. Many databases aren't even SQL anymore. Meanwhile, money can be made from many database-related technologies without involving a blockchain.
