Google also seems to be in a hiring slowdown, is hiring really slowing down? Should I be panicking and does anyone have any tips to navigate this?
I don't think you should be panicking though, just learn to deal with this market. Build a network, favor direct reach outs over just applying to a job on indeed.
A warm intro means a lot more (just message random people on LinkedIn and plenty will be happy to help, as we lose nothing if you aren't hired and get a few thousand if you are).
Worst case scenario, prepare to lie on your resume and fake more internships than you have done.
The two of my employers that have substantial staff have eliminated new grad hiring for 2023. Seniors only.
But let me give you some hope. I was fresh out of school. I didn't understand how things worked, thought the dot com bust was just a temporary blip, and left a full-time job at a prestigious company for grad school. In retrospect, that was pretty nutty. But I turned out okay.
I think the environment will be challenging for everyone - fresh out of school and senior devs.
