Any good podcast or blog on the US states that always run a deficit?

I’m asking because I, as a European, wonder how one country made of of many states manages to have no (recent) civil wars but somehow has a bunch of states that (apparently?) always run a definite and still have one currency union that hasn’t gone busy just yet.

If there are any good podcasts or blogs on this subject I would be very grateful for those.

Almost every state has at least an A credit rating. The only one that does not is smack in the middle of the country and not typically thought of as a hot bed of rebellion.
