Are you preparing for global conflict?

There have been several pieces of news recently (which I won't rehash here) that have the possibility of flaring up a global conflict. I now have friends on tech telling me about how they are preparing for such a situation.

Which preparations (if any) are you making or intend to make for a possible global conflict?

Some possible considerations:

- Work / employment

- Financial situation

- Home / residence

- Resources (energy, food, water, etc)

I live in a neutral country (Malaysia). Nuclear fallout should be minimal and we've balanced trade between the east and west.

There's some sucky things about living neutral, like the possibility of being colonized by a superpower for oil. But I think it's worked fine here. There's still an economy, and less reason to be firebombed.

Still I've always been paranoid about the possibility of war and climate change, which is why I don't like lifetime investments like houses. Tech has always been ideal. People say the risk of startups is high, but what's the odds that your beachside home won't be worthless in 50 years? My country has spent up to 70% of its history as a colony. What's the odds that another empire won't colonize us within the next 50 years?

Who would start this global conflict? US can annihilate Russia in a month (not counting time for deployment). China is in enormous financial crisis and economic slowdown without proper navy to invade Taiwan, there is no way for "true" global conflict [not even close to WW1 and WW2] right now.

If you’re thinking worst case, get vitamins with iodine so as to saturate the thyroid. I’m not sure of the risk from KI tablets, so some other iodine salt might be a better choice.

The question that is the most prevalent for me in this case is, that there is a big "why" about it.

Lets just assume for a sec global conflict does indeed occur, the scenario presented will most likely wipe you out anyway in some form or another.

Therefore I life my live as good as I can, idenpendently of immenent doom.

Furthermore, if there is one thing Corona has taught us, its how to life comfortably at home and improved efficiency to think of food as "food for a week" or even "food for a month", so yeah, if anything at all I stopped doing smaller trips to the supermarket and now go for bigger hauls.

Finally, I still do believe in the good of community and thus am sure, that within a short period of time, local communities will form. Sure Mad Max et al is a possible scenario, but I rather believe that humanity as whole will muster through.

This entire world we live in is based on mutual trust in people and therefore I am sure we can rebuild in any case. If we cant, no preparation in the world will suffice.

I didn't even prepare during the lockdown. Nor stock any reasonable amount of food. I found that I couldn't buy mussels, pasta, and toilet paper any more, but so what.

I'm very certain that the world's course will just continue. People will be stressed, but they will get over it. Some places still have an economic boom and if you're in programming, you will never be obsoleted.

I am not preparing in any ways, I like my days simple. I also don't read the news, so I pretty much have no idea if something is going on

As a prepper I do not plan for specific conflicts or emergencies. I assume any random bad things will happen and plan accordingly all the time. This makes storing up supplies easier as I just get a little extra every time I go shopping as a form of insurance. As for specifics one could watch any of the prepping or emergency preparedness Youtube channels for ideas.

Look what happened in Ukraine- if that happened I might stay and fight. Send family away. Depends on a lot of factors. I don’t see the point in stockpiling. A scenario where a basement full of tuna is going to save me but otherwise I die is going to be an edge case I think.

Another poster talks about nukes so nothing you can do there. Just get out of cities I guess?

I see a lot of responses focus on an apocalypse (perhaps where people's thoughts are right now) - and I agree there would be more help from luck in this scenarios.

I was thinking more of disruption to supply chains, perhaps where Countries ban all exports entirely for example. Perhaps companies with foreign labour are regulated too highly to make it viable.
