What kind of source license allows view but not redistrubtion?

I was watching old videos on the TI-94A where games were written plain text basic and distributed where you could conceivably make changes to the source but I presume not be allowed to redistribute it without permission.

Are there any licenses off the shelf that are defensible in court that can allow this today? I'm thinking of releasing a python tool kit but I don't want to go through the folly of trying to obfuscate the code and I would like users to be able to make their own customizations.

My tool kit would have to be distributed with media as the other parts of the program would are too big to host. It is also of niche interest and I'm not prepared yet to simply put the software in an open source orphanage. I spent considerable time on it. I only expect to make a few bucks on it by selling it on eBay. But If I release a torrent of it, I'm not likely to see any benefit of the effort.

That sounds more like what a proprietary licence would be used for. You could license both the binaries and the source code under this proprietary licence and provide them to users.
