Are you an artist / designer? How do you feel about AI generated art?

I can almost quote verbatim what I commented on a HN thread about generated music. The same criticism applies. It might come across as arrogant, and I wish I wouldn't feel that way, but sadly I do. What is missing in this pieces of 'art' is everything having to do with some kind of intentionality, and if we are on a level where that's OK for most people, well, I don't want to have anything to do with 'people'. I truly believe that the problem lies within the recipients of the medium, not the medium.

AI generators are a tool that may help people create art. Like cameras and paints and any other tool used for artistic purposes. We always go "woe! the art form is dead!" when new tools show up; "electronic music isn't real music" etc. It never is.

Someone made "art" with a jet engine splashing paint around once (at least). That was as relevant to the debate about "is it art" as the fuss over "AI tools" is. "It is art or not?" is the judgement of the viewer. The tools used by the artist, and opinions of rest of the audience aren't relevant.
