What is a good note app, unlike Evernote?

What is a good note app for Android? unlike Evernote which is spammy and buggy and painful to use.

Tried them all. It is critical to me that the app is subscription-free, runs on mobile, desktop and web.I ended up using the native iOS/macOS notes app. Many features are lacking, I can only sync via iCloud, but the app syncs very well, has a decent UI and can handle attachments very well.

Index cards are pretty good. They are thin enough to fit in my wallet which keeps my memory available long enough to use it.
