How to Talk Tech?
Ive been a developer for over 10 years primarily working in agencies and every place I’ve worked I’ve always just been a worker and never had a mentor or never really involved on the business side of things. I got a role as an associate director of technology and I’m just trying to step up my game. Does any one have any advice on how I can level up on the business side of things?
Check out CTO Craft. They are an exec coaching mentoring circle that comes with a slack group. There are tons of CTOs and director levels in the groups, plus mentors. Very active, a great community.
That, or read every day.
I have seen that techies have poor listening skills. It's all about "Rails sucks" or "JavaScript rocks" etc. And without understanding problem statement.
Starting point could be to listen well and wait to form an opinion.
Find a mentor. There are many executive coaches out there.
