After Blender got it's long-overdue facelift with the 2.8 update, I think it far surpasses the capability and value of every other 3D software on the market. The learning curve is steep, but the return-on-investment for learning it's interlocking tools & systems is pretty significant.
Obviously there's the parable of Linux slaying the proprietary Unix fiends too, but I'd reckon most people on this site are well-familiarized with that story already.
