What is your application? No one knot fits all.
I like to use a fisherman's knot before soldering two wires together. It makes the bond way stronger, and it looks good.
The most useless one I know of is that speedy way some people tie their shoes with one quick movement. It looks impressive, but that knot can't really hold, so it comes undone really easily.
Sailing knots. Knots that I can make in a hurry. Bow line. Reef knot. Figure 8.
