I have been fascinated by the potential of homomorphic encryption [1] to disrupt privacy-preserving data analysis and have been following the research in this area closely. Recently, I have become increasingly concerned about the possibility of government tampering with homomorphic encryption schemes, which could have devastating consequences for the security and privacy of users.
Is this a real fear for FHE research? If so, what are the best ways to protect against it?
