Computer Vision for Collective Good?

I've been a computer vision-focused engineer for years now, working on projects I'd consider morally... neutral. Nothing harmful (surveillance, weaponized dog-bots, ad targeting, etc) but nothing that's even close addressing our social and planetary ills.

I love the day-to-day nuts and bolts of my current CV work, but feel drawn to make some sort of contribution to the collective good. Does anyone know of companies that combine the two?

I'm being deliberately vague on what I consider "good." I'm interested in whatever you think is putting out our shared dumpster fire.

Thank you!

There's a lot of need for classifying aerial and satellite imagery. Those uses range from crop optimization to decarbonization.

See Descartes Labs, Planet, etc. Also see theCaDC.org for water data needs though I believe they're still too small to need a CV expert.

We are. We're building a bionic eye to help restore some sense of vision for those who are completely vision impaired. Computer vision is the cornerstone of what we do. If you're completely vision impaired this kind of intervention is life changing.
