I've worked on both sides of the vendor relationship, and thought I'm always curious about how outages happen, I've rarely had a quantifiable reason for it. If you're in the habit of requesting RCA's from vendors. Why? Have you gotten a tangible benefit from it?

I think in most cases, the impetus for the request is that the customer wants the vendor to perform a formal RCA, not that the customer wants to read the RCA.
I have gotten a tangible benefit (both as someone requesting an RCA and as someone only performing an RCA because of an external request) in the sense that the RCA revealed an underlying problem and likely prevented a future outage.
