What is your alter ego?

This was my alter ego. Someone purposefully tagged my legal name on the Stallman petition, as a passive aggressive way to induce harassment.

I had switched my old username, a pormanteau of my first and last name, to "dontbenebby" for a trip to Defcon, intending to get a new job and for it to be a bit of a joke - oh look, I started tweeting like a guest on Chapo Trap House for the weekend when my followers were mostly a mix of academics and/or K Street Bluechecks, not like, my actual friends.

It was quite the wild ride, and to this day I'm kind of passive aggressively doing a purposeful context collapse because I'm angry folks did not respect the spirit of that username switch, which I did to protect some very vulnerable people around the same time I deleted my Facebook + Instagram and did some other things I won't detail here to cloud my digital trail.

If I knew how people would abuse the spirit of that gesture... I wouldn't have ever done the things I did between now and then. I'd have gotten on a plane to Thailand or something and spent the Trump administration on a beach.
