Is Product Hunt Worth It?

Lately I've seen many startups post "#1/2/3/ on Product Hunt". I know they also go into a good amount of effort to do this (e.g. write up a good post before, get all their friends to vote for them)

Does anyone with experience know if getting on PH #1/2/3 actually translates into something meaningful? e.g. a huge increase in adoption/downloads/awareness etc.

Depends for what.

I got to #3 on producthunt last year and still get traffic from them. Does it convert to users? On the day of launch I got 600 new users but they were not very active.

Imo it's a shiny new toy syndrome place. They have a lot of eyes on their website so you can leverage that. The people will try your product just because.

But marketing strategy should be more complex then just launching on product hunt.

In terms of launching its just for 1 very tiring day.

Don’t rely on a single platform to launch. Diversify. Have different channels for spreading the word, but use those channels the right way. So for example Twitter would be handy for telling people about small features you just added, and YouTube could be used for screencasts, Facebook for running ADs, and your blog for content marketing.
