Gmail less secure apps no longer available?

I had been using the "less secure apps" remote SMTP login for some basic notification stuff (so it's not high risk by any means).

The SMTP login has on occasion stopped working in the past (Google just turns it off automatically), in which case I'd simply log in to the gmail account and re-enable less secure apps.

But now all of a sudden (as of today) I can no longer enable less secure apps. It's not longer a clickable feature.

Is this a new Gmail policy?

I didn't get notified about it.
