Are DB's the new JavaScript-framework-boom-like explosion?

I've noticed recently that a huge amount of new DB engines and other data related projects/products/tools are been released at an unprecedented frequency. I wonder if there is happening a Cambrian explosion similar to that experimented by the javascript ecosystem years before, what do you think?

I hope so. The Cambrian explosion in JavaScript brought me Preact, which I love. I hope the same happens for databases, though Postgres will be hard to topple.

Not sure, but I think it was always like that, give or take. Niche databases solve specific cases, and there is always someone with an unusual requirement.
