Did YouTube just change their algorithm?
My recommend videos just changed radically. Almost all American political content is gone, and now I have lots of gaming, pop culture and local news. These are not topics I'd normally watch. Has anyone else noticed this?
I used YouTube's "Not Interested" button to filter out political content at the end of 2020 so I haven't noticed that.
But I have noticed over the last week, more 'contrarian' content. I watched a few videos on Elden Ring builds and I kept seeing videos like "The BIGGEST Problem With Elden Ring" or "5 Reasons Why Elden Ring is BROKEN". I saw a few videos on configuring pfSense for my home lab and I started getting videos like "Is pfSense Any Good In 2022" or "Still Using pfSense? Use THIS Instead!"
I know these sound like regular Youtube-y, clickbait-y titles, but just a week or two ago it wasn't this bad.
Check your login status, I had this happen a while back and it looked like I was being recommended not-logged content
Yes, there was a post on HN a few days ago about this saying it would be rolled out shortly.
Hmm I haven't noticed much of a change. 99% of my recommendations are either videos I've already watched, videos from people I'm subscribed to, or videos from people I've watched content from before but haven't bothered to subscribe to yet. In my case, this mostly means gaming and pop culture videos, aka the stuff I watch on YouTube already.
I saw a lot of unusual recommendations today actually. Edit: lots more pop culture and conspiracy theories (are those the same thing now?)
Probably, they change it all the time.
