What can be done to persuade Russia and Ukraine to “food peace”?

Russia and Ukraine are significant exporters of wheat and other basic food related supplies (https://www.economist.com/leaders/2022/05/19/the-coming-food-catastrophe, or unpaywalled https://archive.is/hobUN).

What could be done to persuade Russia and Ukraine, as well as all related sanctioning countries, to agree on free trading of food related supplies despite the war?

I cannot imagine that either country would disagree, or even the sanctioning EU or related countries like Britain. But no news outlet I regularly consume reports on talks regarding this, as if this wasn't an option at all. Why? There are unrests worldwide at stake, and lives obviously.

Why would Russia agree? By limiting food exports, they are hurting Ukraine's economy. What makes you think they are concerned about lives of people in other countries if there willing to go to war with Ukraine?

Your mistake is to think that Russia will not disagree. It does, because this is one of their tools to put international pressure on Ukraine to surrender. They try to portray this as fault of Ukraine.

Provide direct military support to Ukraine. Eliminate russian invaders. There is absolutely no reason to believe any promises russian side would give, and plenty of examples where russian word is worthless. After threat is gone, food issue would get solved by itself.

The #1 thing that can be done is that the EU should let Ukraine export the maximum amount of grain in by rail and not hang it up on bureaucracy and customs inspection.

Nothing. This will end with Russia's military defeat. Russia is already defeated but it's being stubborn. It is sustaining enormous losses but still not giving up.

Hundreds of thousands of children were forcibly deported into Russia. I don't know how many, but it's over 200,000 by now. Entire cities were ruined. None of this is an exaggeration. Over 1,000,000 women were deported into Russia. There is no peace option being negotiated. "Politico-diplomatic talks are on pause" - Myhailo Podolyak - Ukraine's office of the President.

Let me tell you why Ukraine is unable to export, despite wanting to and having ample food supplies. Ukraine's primary means of export is through the ports of Black Sea. Russia has blockaded them since February 24. The entire sea is mined with over 500 mines. That is partially why Mariupol was such a key city to defend.

Even if Russia were to lift its sea blockade of Odessa and Mariupol, there are hundreds of mines to be located and defused. Such mines are washing up on Odessa's beaches today.

EU has already granted Ukraine free trade of every commodity for 1 year. EU is assisting Ukraine with exports through rail and trucking. Meanwhile, the entire country is being attacked daily with cruise missiles on its entire territory. There have been over 1500 missiles fired. I don't have accurate numbers right now, but it's close.

Russia has shot up vehicles of escaping civilians that were marked "children". These were the vehicles escaping through the so-called "green corridors". There are many videos you will not see on US news media because of how gruesome they are.

So, here you go... live and uncensored real news from Ukraine translated with varying quality but in real-time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stxveKChQ04 Warning, this may make you very upset. This is not propaganda. You will hear live reports from politicians responsible for their areas and see speakers being interrupted with "I am sorry to interrupt, but there is a new air raid alert in effect for (about 25% of the country). Please go to bomb shelters now. Please continue...". And you will see that air raids map become redder by the minute until the entire country is red. And more children will be reported dead.

I speak Ukrainian fluently and can vouch for authenticity of translation. I have directly saved several lives and I support various war-related charities, such as for our raped women and children (no, unfortunately I am not exaggerating here either) of whom there are thousands.
