What Replaced Meetup?

I recently moved, and I want to discover local meetups. I have a vague recollection that Meetup.com more or less died after going pay-to-play.So, what replaced it as the go-to for finding local meetups?

Meetup is alive, but it is more or less as you say, the groups has cost (normally the people from a group paid together).There is a free software alternatives (but I don't know if there are good servers with a lot of people and groups running): https://joinmobilizon.org/en/
